The Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society (SAWS) invites Alberta Craft and our guests to attend a curated talk and tour of 2023 Fine Works in Wood exhibition.

This event will take place at Southcentre Mall on Thursday, September 7 at 2 - 3:30 pm.

This is a unique opportunity to learn and ask questions on how fine pieces of furniture, wooden vessels, wall art and objects to delight are made.

For 40 years SAWS has put on the Fine Works in Wood Exhibition. There are over 50 pieces of fine woodworking in this year’s event. Each piece had to be evaluated for technical excellence and accepted by a panel of expert woodworkers. A panel of three Jurors also viewed all the pieces and gave awards based on artistic merit, originality of design and professionalism of presentation. The resulting exhibition shows the very best entries from Western Canadian artisans and makers.

About the Host:

Your host for this event will be Tom Gorman, the Chair of this year’s Exhibition. Tom was educated in Northern Ireland and received his woodworking qualifications from City and Guilds of London, England, before moving to Canada. Tom just retired from his professional woodworking career and continues, as he has done for 40 years, to build fine furniture in his home shop.

Tom is sure to inform and entertain his audience as he talks about the pieces in the Exhibition.
