A Critical Look at Adolf Loos' Ornament and Crime with Dr. Jennifer Salahub

Adolf Loos was an Austrian architect active in the early 1900’s in Vienna whose fierce opinions about ornament influenced the work of architects, designers and makers of his era as well as the development of Modernism. Loos believed that the use of ornament on objects and buildings belied degenerate, criminal tendencies and caused ‘…damage and devastation…’ to aesthetic development. On Monday, November 7, at 7pm please join us for a hilarious and informative Monday MeetUp discussion of the ideas in Adolf Loos’ Ornament and Crime essay. Dr. Jennifer Salahub will present her perspectives on this contentious missive from the 20th century, followed by a discussion period and time for questions about the exhibition call. We will consider the essay one forceful assertion at a time to inspire you as you prepare your applications for and ideas about the Ornament and Crime Exhibition opening March 4, 2022.
