Tickets: Free, registration is required.
In this workshop, attendees will learn to properly mix mortar, make simple cuts with nippers, and adhere tesserae to a 6" x 6" substrate. You will have access to various tiles and some shared mosaic cutters for cutting. There may be some tile cutting required.
You will also be shown how to grout your mosaic and will receive a small bag of dry grout and printed grouting instructions to take home to complete your project.
At or before 3 pm, we will shift gears and walk over to Edmonton’s most recent public sculpture "A Mischief of Could-be(s)" by Erin Pankratz & Christian Pérès Gibaut located in Churchill Square. Erin will share insight into the concept and fabrication process of the inviting and interactive sculpture.
This event is suitable for ages 8+. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
All workshop materials will be provided.
The walk from Al Fresco to Churchill Square will take approximately 10 minutes. Alternatively, the Bay Enterprise Square, and Churchill Square LRT stations are both conveniently located close to each location.

About your instructor:
Born in Inuvik, NWT, Erin Pankratz lives and works in Edmonton, AB. She studied Art -Sculpture at the Alberta College of Art and Design and has received several grants and awards, including the 2013 & 2016 Innovation in Mosaics Awards by the Society of American Mosaic Artists and the 2021 Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund. She is a frequent lecturer and guest artist at international events.
