Due to unforeseen circumstances, this event has been cancelled. We hope to offer it again in the future.
This one-day introductory basket weaving workshop at Good Note Community Farm, located just outside of Edmonton, will have you exploring traditional techniques with lots of room for personal expression. You will be expertly guided through the weaving process and come away with your very own natural fibre Art Basket.
The Art Basket is a basic willow stake and strand method, with additions of many of nature's fibres added in numerous weaving patterns as time and creativity allow. The base is paired and the sides are randed. The border can include a handle or stay flat as desired, giving quite a bit of flexibility and artistic license to this functional vessel.
All basket materials will be provided and include willow, cattails, bullrushes, garlic stems, grasses, wool, feathers and barks. Participants are encouraged to bring any additional natural items to weave into the sides that they may collect. Suitable materials include shells, feathers, moss, roots, wool, bark, leaves, even a bell if you so choose!
