Annette ten Cate’s exhibition Wildly Sensitive features hand built, clay sculptures that reflect a deep connection to the wildlife of this province, some of which are provincially designated as “at risk”. Depicting her subjects in almost human narratives, wearing human garb, ten Cate invites the viewer to enjoy a sense of wonder about the varied and delightful wildlife that inhabits our Albertan landscape. Each species is presented in a narrative context alluding to the circumstances they face in their threatened habitats. Injecting the scenarios with humour and lightheartedness, ten Cate’s work offers an opportunity to identify with these animals, one that she hopes will lead to our increased awareness of the need to protect them.
