Julia Reimer selected to create piece for the winner of Stage Four of the Tour of Alberta
Julia Reimer (Black Diamond) has been selected to create a one of a kind blown glass piece for the winner of Stage Four of the Tour of Alberta.
The most difficult stage of the tour will feature elite cyclists and Tour de France winners. The piece to be presented to the winner was chosen because it’s mineral tones reflect the resource based history of Black Diamond, the start and end point for Stage Four and the swirling gesture of the top was reflective of the motion and speed of the cyclists.
Artist Julia Reimer, who created this piece, received the RBC National Glass prize and has had a career marked by successes both at home and internationally. While her work has been international recognized, she derives her inspiration from the changing landscape of Southern Alberta. Her work can be found in numerous public, corporate and private collections, including the collection of Emperor and Empress of Japan. Julia has recently returned to Alberta from Australia where she was an artist in residence at the National Glass Centre in Canberra and was a finalist for the prestigious Ranamok Prize. Julia currently lives in Black Diamond, AB, where she owns and operates Firebrand Glass Studio with her partner Tyler Rock.
Both Julia and Tyler works will be on display at the Arts Festival associated with the Tour of Alberta and their studio will be open to visitors for demonstrations and sales during the festival. Further information can be found at www.firebrandglass.ca
