Painting on silk provides a gratifying freedom of expression for Darcy. While the majority of her work is nature-inspired, simplicity of line and the bold use of colour are prominent characteristics in her designs. “Through my art, my goal is to enrich people’s lives and encourage them to become more aware of the beauty in their surroundings.” Her company, Silk Concepts, has been in business for over 25 years. This workshop will introduce you to the process of painting on silk, working with resist and dye techniques, as well as experimenting with colour and various types of silk. Learn to work with French dyes made especially for silk fabric and how to permanently set the colour. Quilters will also gather information about working with cottons. You are encouraged to bring along sketches/design motifs to work with, and designs will also be available. At the end of the week, you will have created a silk scarf and two other silk pieces that can be translated into a banner, cushion cover or frameable art. Sign up!
