"Pulp Paper Pages" at the Leighton Art Centre
On June 15th we were happy to attend the reception of "Pulp Paper Pages" at the Leighton Art Centre, Gallery & Museum in Calgary, Alberta. The opening was well received by visitors and exhibition participants all of whom were impressed by the beauty of the historic home hosting "Pulp Paper Pages". Alberta Craft Council Executive Director, Tom McFall, and Leighton Art Centre Executive Director, Tony Luppino, both gave speeches at the event discussing the fantastic exhibition as well as the Leighton's plans to host more fine craft content in the future. Susan Kristoferson, "Pulp Paper Pages" conceiver, also spoke of the exhibition's beginning and future, she will also be hosting paper workshops and a lecture at the Leighton.

Hand Made Paper Making with Susan Kristoferson

Get your hands into pulp to create papers of your own. Learn to pull rustic as well as refined sheets of paper, to make papers with “inclusions”, to create multi-layer papers, and to “pulp paint” with colored pulp to create images within the sheets of paper that you make. Head home with a stack of freshly made sheets of paper.
Pulp Paper Pages Lecture

Susan Kristoferson is a paper art specialist with more than 40 years of experience, particularly in paper making and surface design processes. She has been an art professor at Miami University, Ohio and Head of Fiber Arts at Oregon College of Arts and Crafts. Susan operates Kristoferson Studio in Calgary where she paints and dyes papers that are sold to art supply and paper shops. In conjunction with Pulp Paper Pages, Susan will be leading a discussion on the history/techniques of paper art throughout the world, its relevance as a contemporary art, and what role the Alberta Crafts Council plays in its development.
