From a Bunch of Sticks: Natural Willow Basketry
July 29, 2013 - August 02, 2013
Learn to turn a bundle of willow wands into gorgeous baskets! Using willow and other materials, you will make a stake-and-strand market basket followed by a melon-shaped frame basket, with further experimentation as time permits. Watch your creation grow as you develop this amazing skill! Use a variety of weaves and border treatments as well as exploring principles of design, colour, and texture. Because wild willow in Alberta can only be woven between October and April, we will work with different types of cultivated willow but we will also discuss how to select, gather, and use wild willow when you want to make more baskets at home.
