Inspired by her garden and all things green and growing, Canadian jewellery artist Melissa Pedersen creates with solid silver, gold, gemstones, and pearls. Her one-of-a-kind designs reflect the beauty found in nature – from seeds and sprouts to budding branches and little blossoms. When she isn’t busy creating in her home studio find her hunting for wildflowers with her husband and three adventurous young sons.
“When I sit down at the jeweller's bench to create a ring, a pendant, or a set of earrings, I feel like a gardener. Using traditional silversmithing tools and techniques, I work the raw sterling silver into tiny leaves and blossoms. The process of creating by hand is slow; each step builds upon the last. When the silver, pearls, and gemstones finally come together, a miniature sculpture and wearable garden are revealed.”
Melissa received a BFA in jewellery and Metals in 2009, from the Alberta College of Art and Design. She currently works from her Calgary based studio.
