Make a Clay Face Plush Doll with Michelle Tran - Al Fresco Summer Series

  • Al Fresco 10150 104 Street Northwest Edmonton, AB, T5J 1A7 Canada (map)

Tickets: Free, registration is required.

In this workshop, you will hand sew a soft plush doll and customize a doll’s face using pigment and markers on a clay base with artist Michelle Tran. The doll will be created with felt fabric cut out using a stencil and hand-sewn together with a simple edge stitch. The face mask is made of clay and will be provided. The doll faces can be designed and drawn on them with the choice of alcohol or water-based markers and attached with velcro. When put together, you will get a simple, cute, doll, with a custom-designed face.

“My own work revolves primarily around the themes of nostalgia, and I particularly like using portraiture and the human face. One thing about humans that I really appreciate is that they are able to see human faces in anything. That desire to see one another in the environment all around us is somehow quite endearing. Maybe that's why the face is such an interesting subject to me. I situate my subjects in a context that is not exactly reality, usually through the use of colour or environment. My hope for my art is for it to be familiar yet unreal, almost like a dream. A lot of my work include clowns, colours and dolls. Things that all can be a bit unnerving if seen in a certain way. But can also be cute- and sweet! Overall, I make art with pretty and cute people that are a little bit wonky and weird- and that's not a bad thing!” -Michelle Tran
