Explore the fragility of bees existence in our modern ecosystem.
The tour will begin at the Red Deer Museum with a staff tour of Lyndal Osbourne’s Tracing Tides – Topographical Investigation exhibition.
We will then be joined by artist Dawn Detarando to explore the fragility of bees existence in our modern ecosystem through her exhibition In Adoration of the Precarious Bee, currently on display.
Then go behind the scenes with a studio visit to Voyager Art & Tile studio with artists Dawn Detarando and Brian McArthur (15 minute drive from the museum).
The afternoon will finish off at Nixon Honey Farm where we will experience the extraction process as we tour the facilities and see the honey extraction process for yourself. Nixon Honey is a family owned and operated company, and one of the larger honeybee farms in Canada. They also offer pollination services to local food producers. (20 minute drive from Voyager Tile).
Bring your own clean dry container and Nixon Honey will fill it up with fresh liquid honey for just $3.50 per pound. Nixon Honey also carries a variety of products for purchase.
This will be a self-driving tour.
Make a day of it!
