What Canada Council's New Funding Model Means for Fine Craft Artists

As of next year (2017) all of the nearly 150 programs currently offered through the Canada Council will be replaced by the New Funding Model.

The New Funding Model consists of six (6) broad programs, each with a few components.  The purpose of each program and their evaluation criteria are already online.

For more information, please visit our website, click “New Funding Model”, “Learn More”, “View the Programs”.

The “Explore and Create” program is where artists will apply for project grants.

The “Arts Across Canada” and “Arts Abroad” will be where artists apply for travel grants, among other things.

First things first
Even the way to apply becomes new as of 2017.  To start with, in early December 2016, a portal will open on our website.  All artists and organizations interested in applying for grants must create a profile in the portal as early as possible.  This is done way ahead of applying for any grant.  To create a profile, you enter your personal information and attach your artistic CV.  Your profile will be verified to determine eligibility to the new programs.  (If you were already eligible to Council, you will automatically be eligible to the new programs.) Once your eligibility has been determined, you will be able to see which programs are available to you.

Early December as well, the full details of the new programs will become available along with the names of Program Officers assigned to each program.

NOTE:
We are currently in a transition period, winding down current programs and lining up deadlines for the New Funding Model programs which will become effective April 1st, 2017 .

The fine craft deadline of March 1st, for professional fine craft artists, has been cancelled.  Applications will instead be submitted for the fiscal year starting April 2017.

Artists and organizations are invited to follow the Canada Council activities on its website or Facebook account in order to be aware of new information being made public.
