Glass Sculpture Installed at EEHC
East Edmonton Health Centre now home to Nina glasswork
With generous support from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts (project grant), Jamie L’Aventure and Roy Skoreyko from the Nina Haggerty Collective had the experience of a lifetime, working weekly at Blow in the Dark Glassworks hot glass studio alongside professional glass artist Keith Walker and Nina's Artistic Director Paul Freeman. Over the course of several months they gained a practical understanding of how to design, execute and embellish finished blown glass artworks. Initially expected to produce a a single exhibition, the project took on a new prominence when the opportunity arose to create a permanent public art piece for the new East Edmonton Health Centre. Already commissioned by Alberta Health Services to create a 3D seascape themed mural for a children's waiting area, project artists took on the challenge of creating blown glass sea urchins, fish and sea grasses. The result is a stunning glass chandelier-style installation now installed in the entry to the new Health Centre. A public open house is planned for fall 2012.
