Pat Borecky, Calgary

Member of the Alberta Craft Council

Renowned for her creative approach to fabric, Pat designs and markets a unique line of wearable art clothing as well as fabric paintings and wall quilts. Experimenting with natural fabrics and exploring new ways of combining fabrics and stitching fuels her designs. Pat loves pattern, color and texture. She works intuitively, designing and challenging the boundaries of traditional sewing. This results in amazing works of art, striking for their rich colours and textures, unusual design, and fine craftsmanship. This artist has won numerous awards for her work, the most coveted: the Award of Excellence for her Collage technique in 1998 and her Scraps to Riches technique in 2002, both from the Canadian Quilt Association. She also exhibits her work in galleries and juried shows, teaches workshops, judges quilt shows, and co-ordinates fashion shows. Her chosen opera to inspire her coat is Esclarmonde.
